New Cat Laws

New collar

As some of our tenants are cat owners, we thought we’d give you a heads-up about the new cat laws that began phasing in late last year.

If you own a cat that is over six months of age, you must ensure that it is:

  • de-sexed;
  • microchipped;
  • registered with your local council;
  • wearing a collar with identification and registration tags.

While the law came into effect in November of last year, cat owners have a grace period of one year to implement these changes. As of 1 November 2013 you may be fined up to $5000 if you don’t comply.
